Fancy Yellow Diamond Engagement Rings

Posted on July 14th, 2014

Fancy Light Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandFancy yellow diamond engagement rings have been gaining popularity in recent years. These diamonds are beautiful, unique and scarce. Natural diamonds are transparent crystals formed under high pressure and at high temperatures. In white diamonds, carbon atoms crystallize forming a diamond lattice. Yellow diamonds occur when trace amounts of nitrogen are present as an impurity in the carbon atoms. The rare and alluring fancy color diamonds coveted by many are ironically a byproduct of contamination.

White diamonds are more valuable when they are colorless and clear. Fancy yellow diamonds should not be confused with a yellow or brownish hue in a low quality color grading (N through Z) of a white diamond.  The color of fancy yellow diamonds are graded based on three factors:

1. Saturation means the strength or intensity of the color
2. Hue indicates the dominant color of the stone
3. Tone describes how much lightness or darkness the stone retains

These three factors produce the following color grades:

• Faint
• Very Light
• Light
• Fancy Light
• Fancy
• Fancy Dark
• Fancy Intense
• Fancy Deep
• Fancy Vivid

Fancy Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandThe selection of a fancy yellow diamond ring is truly about personal preference.  While some people like the fancy vivid, or “canary diamond” others may like the softer hue of a light yellow stone.  Some celebrities have made the yellow diamond engagement ring popular in recent years, including Heidi Klum, Kelly Clarkson, Rebecca Romijn and Carrie Underwood.  These high-profile rings were all fashioned with a different stone size, yellow color and diamond cut.  The versatility of a yellow diamond cut is the same as a white diamond, but cuts such as the Radiant cut can maximize the natural yellow color of a stone.

Mark Broumand has a stunning and rare collection of Fancy Yellow Diamond Engagement Rings to choose from.  The rings that Mark has selected span all of the different yellow color grades.  You can find a ring in any carat weight, shape or cut that her heart desires.  If you have a hard time deciding, Mark Broumand can create a unique and custom ring for your bride to be.

Pear Shaped Diamond Engagement Rings

Posted on July 13th, 2014

A Pear Shaped diamond engagement ring is a unique hybrid of the round brilliant cut and Marquise cut diamond. Often called a teardrop cut, one end is perfectly round while the other narrows to the tapered point. This special ring is usually worn with the tapered end towards the fingernail, visually slimming the finger of the wearer. The 58 facets in this diamond allow for a similar brilliance to the round cut.pear shaped diamond engagement rings | Mark Broumand In the late 1400s, the diamond polishing wheel was created by Lodewyk van Berquem. This invention allowed him to optimize the light reflection of a stone by polishing the facets. His work also concentrated on the symmetry of the facets within a stone and led him to the first Pear-Shaped, “Briolette” or “Pendeloque” diamond cut. Over many centuries, the shape went through different phases to change the shape. In the early 1900s, the modern pear-shaped stone had evolved into the stone you see today.pear shaped diamond engagement ring | Mark BroumandBecause of the shape of the diamond, inclusions and flaws may often be placed at the narrow point of the diamond. If the end is properly set with a prong, these inclusions will be nearly invisible.  A prong on the sharp point will also help prevent chipping or breaking of the narrow tip. The elongated shape may suffer from a “bowtie effect”, where a bowtie-shaped shadow may be seen in the wider, round end of the stone.  This will vary by gemstone  and can only be determined upon visual inspection of images or the stone itself.  Symmetry is important in a pear shape. The tapered point should align with the center of the rounded end and each long side should mirror each other. The stone should not possess any rough, straight edges.pear shaped diamond ring | Mark BroumandThere are a large variety of settings and styles available at Mark Broumand. The Pear is perfect in three-stone settings, as a center stone with side stones or perfectly accented by other diamonds in a halo setting. Mark can also customize any diamond ring to match your specific taste. Pear Shaped diamond engagement rings from Mark Broumand are a wonderful choice for an engagement ring that expresses individuality and shines as brightly as she does.

Round Brilliant Cut Diamond Engagement Rings

Posted on July 9th, 2014

Round Brilliant cut diamond engagement rings are the most popular style of engagement rings sold today. Over 80% of loose diamonds currently on the market are round cuts. The sparkling diamonds have evolved into the contemporary cut over a period of six centuries. The round brilliant cut diamond was styled with a face-up, circular outline right around 1750. The cut had gone through many changes to the facet sizes and proportions over the years up to that point. If you were to view a timeline of diamonds over the last six centuries, you would see a collection of very distinctive appearances for different periods of time.Round Brilliant Cut Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandThe modern round brilliant is optically stunning, with the best light dispersion and refraction of any other diamond cut. Mathematical calculations and theories of light behavior were studied for nearly 100 years to maximize the brilliance and fire of the 58-facet round brilliant. This research led to less of the rough diamond being lost during cutting. The modern cut seen today has a larger table (flat top facet of the diamond), smaller culet (lowest point of the diamond), and the star facets and lower half facets were elongated.

For a slightly different look, the Antique European round is the predecessor of the modern round brilliant. The Antique cut also bears 58 facets, but has a smaller table with a higher crown. The pavilion is deeper in this cut and the diamond ends with an open culet. Though similar to a contemporary round brilliant diamond, light gets captured within the stone and reflects its inner fire.Antique Round Brilliant Cut Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandBrowse Mark Broumand’s selection of round brilliant cut diamond engagement rings. Though breathtaking and often seen in a solitaire setting, there is a vast selection of different settings for antique cut or modern round brilliant cut diamond rings. Round brilliants are so versatile and perfect as a halo engagement ring, three-stone ring or accented with side stones. If you have a perfect ring in mind, Mark can custom design an engagement ring she has been dreaming of.

Historical Tribute – Marquise Cut Diamond Ring

Posted on July 9th, 2014

Yellow Marquise Cut Diamond Ring | Mark BroumandThe Marquise cut diamond ring features an elliptical shaped diamond that narrows to pointed ends. Also known as the Navette cut, it is rumored that King Louis XV of France had commissioned the diamond design to capture the Marquise of Pompadour’s perfectly shaped lips. Your marquise cut diamond should be wholly symmetrical and clear with high quality color.

Marquise Cut Diamond Engagement Rings | Mark BroumandThe Marquise has the largest crown surface, per carat of any other cut. This makes the stone appear larger in a “face up” position than other cuts of the same weight. This cut is vulnerable to the “bowtie effect”, wherein a dark bow tie shadow area may be seen at the center of the diamond. This condition will not be documented in any certification and will be apparent upon visual inspection of the stone. There will be 58 facets in the standard cut of the diamond and may have 4, 6 or 8 facets on the pavilion (underside) of the stone.

Marquise Cut Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandSymmetry is critical in the Marquise cut diamond ring. The pointed ends should align to each other and the rounded sides should mirror each other. Any asymmetry may adversely affect the appearance once the stone is set. The sharp ends are very fragile and should always be protected with prongs when set as a solitaire diamond. Inclusions can be apparent in stones with low quality clarity or color. Flaws are more easily hidden if located within the end points. The ideal proportion for this cut is a length to width ratio of 2:1. A lesser ratio will move into a more oval shape and a greater ratio will begin to sacrifice brilliance of the cut. Longer, narrow marquises are more prone to chipping or breaking.

Marquise Cut Diamond Rings | Mark BroumandThe Marquise Cut Diamond Rings in Mark Broumand’s collection have been chosen for their exceptional color, clarity and symmetry. A Marquise cut diamond ring is the best choice for those that desire a visibly large diamond without the hefty price tag of other cuts based on carat weight. This delicate and elegant stone creates a slimming effect on the finger. This unique and timeless diamond ring is sure to be treasured.

Cushion Cut Diamond Engagement Rings – Modern Elegance

Posted on July 8th, 2014

Cushion Cut Diamond Engagement Rings showcase a brilliant and uniquely pillow-shaped diamond with large facets and rounded corners. The shape is often described as a hybrid of a rectangle and oval or a cross between an oval and old mine cut. The old mine had 58 facets while the modern cushion touts 64 facets. Though the cushion cut is widely known in famous gemstones such as the Hope Diamond (45.45 carats), Regent Diamond (140.5 carats) and Yellow Tiffany Diamond (128.54 carats), the cut is rather rare. Larger facets highlight the diamond’s clarity and the oval feature increases the stone’s brilliance.Yellow Cushion Cut Diamond Engagement Rings | Mark BroumandFashioned after the Old Mine, this diamond cut has been around for nearly 200 years and was as popular in its time as the round brilliant is today. The cushion will return light in chunkier patterns than many other modern shapes. Marcel Tolkowsky’s research of the 1920s was used in enhancing the antique cushion cut diamond by enlarging the table (flat top of the diamond), decreasing the size of the culet (bottom point) and enhancing the facets. These changes amplified the lumen of the stone. Many buyers are attracted to the scarcity of the cut and the feel of the stone that combines the classic romantic look with modern day brilliance.Cushion Cut Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandWhile less brilliant than the round brilliant cut diamond, cushion cuts often render a more intense fire than other modern cuts. Cushions generally display one of three fundamental facet patterns which can create varied appearances. The shape of the stone can also vary between diamonds; some will have more rounded edges while others have edges that are more linear. A cushion with larger facets will create broad flashes of fire. Smaller facets of the cut result in more precise bursts of fire often referred to as “pinfire”.

The Elegant Asscher Cut Diamond Ring

Posted on July 6th, 2014

The Asscher Cut Diamond Ring is a study in linear beauty. The square- shaped, 58-facet Asscher is a series of step or trap cuts that run parallel to the widest point of the diamond, known as the girdle. It is this style of cutting that creates a mirrored windmill effect when looking at the diamond from the top. In the last decade, the Asscher has become increasingly popular as many celebrities received this timeless classic as a promise of love. This ring’s revival is no surprise, since it is a unique appreciation of the beauty of vintage jewelry from the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s.  Today, it is highly coveted among antique jewelry dealer simply as aged pieces or for repairs to otherwise intact vintage jewelry pieces.

Mark Broumand Asscher Cut Diamond Engagement Ring

Much like an emerald cut, the Asscher cut highlights the clarity and color of the stone as opposed to the fire or sparkle in some diamonds, such as a radiant cut or round brilliant cut diamond. The “hall of mirrors maze” effect of the cut draws the eye visually down into the diamond. There are hallmark patterns that distinguish this profile from simply being a square emerald cut. Designed in 1902 by Joseph Asscher, it was the first patented diamond cut. Original diamonds of the time are harder to find, since many of these original stones were later cut down into more brilliant gems.

Yellow Asscher Cut Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandThe Asscher shines in a solitaire setting, surrounded by accent stones in a halo setting or accented with side stones.  This stone is remarkable as an engagement ring, anniversary ring or right-hand ring.  Though will find many intriguing Mark Broumand jewelry pieces, the Asscher cut diamond rings in Mark’s collection really showcase the beauty of this diamond. Asscher Cut Diamond Eternity Band | Mark BroumandYou can find an Asscher Cut Diamond Ring in a variety of popular and elegant white or fancy yellow diamond engagement ring settings and eternity bands. If you do not find the perfect ring for your beloved, remember that Mark Broumand can custom design an Asccher cut diamond ring that will steal her heart.

Dazzling Brilliance of Radiant Cut Engagement Rings

Posted on July 4th, 2014

Radiant Cut Engagement Rings unify the linear clarity of the emerald cut and fiery sparkle of the round brilliant diamond. The radiant cut was developed in 1977 by Henry Grossbard, after thirty-three years of honing his craft. He created a new cutting technique, the “brilliantized step cut” to capitalize on the best qualities of both the emerald and round brilliant, since each separately reflects light differently.  Radiants are similar to incredibly brilliant princess cut diamonds at first glance, but are among the rarest diamonds.

The table or “flat top” of the stone will account for approximately 60% of the width.  A deeper rough stone is required since depth is needed to create the brilliance.  For this reason, radiant cut diamonds may appear smaller than other diamond shapes if viewed from above. In many of the squared radiants, the outline of the round brilliant can be seen in the center of the stone.

Radiant Cut Engagement Ring Trillion Accent Stones | Mark Broumand There are 70 facets and angled corners in this fiery diamond.  The larger number of facets can help to conceal inclusions, flaws, dark areas and shadows.   The inherent brilliance can make a high-quality stone appear to have better color than the same diamond of a simpler profile.  The trimmed corners of this diamond make it less fragile than princesses.  Per-carat cost of the radiant cut is one of the least expensive which allows for flexibility in upgrading to a larger carat weight.  Most radiants will be 1 carat or larger.

Radiant Cut Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring | Mark BroumandThe radiant maximizes color, making it an excellent choice for fancy colored diamond rings such as the fancy intense yellow radiant cut engagement ring or the fancy light blue radiant diamond ring. Due to the stone’s unique shape and circular life, radiant cut diamond engagement rings look especially stunning when accented with either squared, trillion or round accent stones.
