Posted on February 26th, 2015

One of the best reasons to create your custom diamond engagement ring with Mark Broumand? Complete customization.  You do not have to select from an inventory of stones that fit into a pre-defined group of ring settings.  You can select any diamond size and cut and choose many other options to make your custom engagement ring unique.

Here are some detail ideas for your custom engagement ring from Mark Broumand:

1.  Milgrain

3.  Mixed Metals

4.  Engraving

Engraving can be used to add special decorative details to elements such as the shank or center basket.

5.  Shank

Since a center stone is held in a basket and fastened to the band with connectors, it is more than one single piece of metal and is therefore a shank.  In addition to the metal selection, you can select the shape, width and design of the shank desired.

6.  Center basket

The center basket holds the large, center stone in place.  The center basket is fastened to the shank with connectors, which can also be adorned with milgrain, filigree or jewels.

Create Your Own Vintage Style Custom Diamond Engagement Rings

Posted on February 24th, 2015

Do you love the unique and romantic look of a vintage style diamond engagement ring?  You are in luck, since Mark Broumand has helped hundreds of couples create vintage style custom engagement rings which have also been gaining in popularity over the last several years.  The term “vintage” technically describes jewelry that is older than 50 years old, yet newer than 100 years old.  Jewelry that is truly over 100 years in age is considered to be antique.

Using this timeline, vintage style engagement rings will replicate the look of rings created between 1915 and 1964.  What most people now consider “vintage style” will begin in the period known as the Art Deco Period (circa 1915-1935).

Characteristics Common in Vintage Diamond Engagement Rings

1.  Diamond Cuts of the Time Period

The intriguing Asscher and the perfectly clear emerald cut diamond reached the apex of popularity during the Art Deco period.  These cuts focused more on diamond’s luster and clarity instead of the fire and brilliance of other diamonds.

2.  Halo of Diamonds

This ring setting earned its name because of the “halo” of smaller stones that decorate and accent the center gemstone.  Some rings will use a different shape of halo than the stone cut and double or even triple halos can be used in your setting.

3.  Milgrain and Filigree Details

Milgrain is a decorative beading style in metal. Filigree describes delicate, ornate patterns constructed from metals or metal wire.  These special touches can be used on the shank, center basket or connectors.

4.  Antique Cuts

Antique cut diamonds, such as the European round cut, old mine cut and antique cushion cut diamonds have larger facets with slower light scintillation.  Many appreciate the more distinctive facet pattern and different light behavior found in antique cuts.

White gold and platinum gained popularity circa the 1920s.  Seen as a “futuristic” metal, platinum use soared because the metal was very strong, therefore less had to be used to secure gems.

It is not necessary that your ring vintage custom diamond engagement ring contains all of the above characteristics. These are listed here to give you an idea of the different elements often found in vintage jewelry that you can use in the design of your special ring.

Diamond Engagement Rings – What the Celebrities are Wearing

Posted on February 23rd, 2015

There were some very distinct styles of diamond engagement rings popular with celebrities over the last few years:  custom designed and vintage style.  Here are some of the incredible engagement rings from Mark Broumand with the same look that many popular celebs have selected over the past few years.

2.21ct Round Brilliant Cut Diamond Solitaire

Mila Kunis and Lauren Conrad both have a traditional and minimalist round brilliant cut diamond solitaire engagement ring.  Sometimes a polished gem is so beautiful and perfect in its natural state, that it best shines alone.  If you find a diamond that is “the one”, you may greatly enjoy the solitaire ring setting.

The gorgeous 2.21ct round brilliant cut diamond in this solitaire is EGL certified at G-VS1. It is white and very clear with an incredible sparkle.  It is set on a high polish 14k white gold four prong solitaire.

5.37ct Emerald Cut Diamond Engagement Ring

Beyoncé and Hayden Panettiere both sport a very similar ring to the one below, emerald cut diamond with a split shank.  The stunner is a 4.77ct emerald cut diamond poised in the center, GIA certified at L-VS1. Even under 10X magnification, it is perfectly clear and has a warm, white color.

Pear Shaped Engagement Rings – The Brilliant and Unique Teardrop

Posted on February 19th, 2015

Pear Shaped Engagement rings feature a modified brilliant diamond merging the round cut and marquise into a beautiful teardrop.  The similar facet pattern to the round brilliant brightens this stone in a diamond with a large table (flat, top facet) and width, and medium depth.  The pear will appear larger than other fancy or mixed cuts due to the table.  This visual quality that is appealing to many is also present in the marquise and oval cut.

No detail was overlooked in this magnificent fancy yellow pear shaped three-stone engagement ring. The impressive center stone is a 2.08ct pear shaped diamond, EGL certified at Fancy Light Yellow, SI2. The two carat center stone has a soft and bright color and an amazing, full shape. Two white pears compliment the center jewel on either side. All three stones are encompassed in halos of micropavé set round diamonds. East and west bezel set round brilliants finish off this extraordinary ring.

Your pear will contain 58 facets like the stones seen in the sparkling and fiery round brilliant cut diamond rings.  The ideal length to width ratio of a teardrop should fall between 1.40 and 1.70.  A lower ratio will give you a fuller and rounder stone with the larger ratio presenting a more slender pear.  Much like the romantic heart shaped diamond, preference in shape is solely a matter of preference of the buyer.  Bilateral symmetry is crucial in the pear shape.

The stunning 1.33ct pear shaped diamond set in the center is certified by GIA, at D-VVS2.  It is the whitest in color in a practically flawless stone.  The cut is exceptional and this gem radiates with tremendous brilliance. The stunning custom-made platinum setting features a stunning split shank design that is set with round diamonds.

Pear cut diamond engagement rings balance shape with brilliance, carat weight with value.  The teardrop shape is versatile and works well as a solitaire or in any ring setting accented with additional pears or round brilliants.  You will love the unique shape and brilliance of the pear shaped diamond in any engagement ring from Mark Broumand.

Fire in Ice – The Radiant Cut Engagement Ring

Posted on February 18th, 2015

If you desire the brilliance of a round cut in a square or rectangular shape, the radiant cut diamond engagement rings from Mark Broumand are the answer to what you have been searching for.   The radiant was a result of three decades of Henry Grossbard’s master craftsmanship, combining the linear facets such as those found in the emerald or asscher with the brilliance found in the round.

Your radiant cut diamond will be square to rectangular in shape with a circular life and angled corners.  Grossbard’s “brilliantized step cut” technique creates 70 facets on the stone: 25 on the crown, 8 on the girdle and 37 pavilion facets.  The diamond will have a depth of 60-80% and may appear smaller per carat when viewed from above than other shapes with greater width, such as the heart or pear shapes.

4.63ct Radiant Cut Diamond Ring

The amazing 3.03ct radiant cut diamond in the center of this custom crafted platinum ring is GIA certified at J-VVS2, is nearly flawless in clarity and the cut is breathtaking!

2.25ct Radiant Cut Engagement Ring

The gorgeous 1.50ct radiant cut diamond poised in the center of this handcrafted halo style ring setting is GIA certified, at F-SI2. This stunning stone is exceptionally white and incredibly brilliant.  The cut is crisp and clean and it has a lustrous sparkle.

It is surrounded by a halo of round brilliants that are also set down the shank in a micropavé setting.  Very little metal shows in this ring, just letting the diamonds shine through.

These are just two of the dazzling radiant cut engagement rings available in Mark Broumand’s portfolio.  If you love the Radiant but desire a bit of color, look into this cut in a colorful and bright fancy yellow diamond engagement ring.  Radiants are excellent in natural stones and also maximize the beautiful hues in fancy color diamonds.
