Antique cushion cut diamond engagement rings were preceded by the Old Mine Cut of the 1800s, which was a squared cut with round corners. The shape of this rich and warm stone resembles the shape of a pillow and like pillows, you will find differences in cushion cuts as well. Many are mostly square shaped with gently rounded corners while others may be mostly curved around a squarish shape.

Antique Cushion Cuts
Antique cushion cuts were developed when diamonds were cut by candlelight. The larger facets were cut to maximize light refraction, inner fire and scintillation of a diamond when viewed by candlelight. This was a very deep cut with large facets, a high crown, small table (flat, top facet of a diamond).
The stunner in this halo engagement ring setting is a 1.58ct antique cushion brilliant. It is GIA certified at F-VS1, which means it is exceptionally white, perfectly clear and it has a tremendously beautiful cut. It is bezel set with a row of round brilliant cut diamonds pave set around it and down the sides of this platinum handmade engagement ring. The center connectors are studded with round diamonds in a pave setting and lead down to a single larger round diamond, which is bezel set at the base.
The exquisite 1.50ct cushion cut set in the center is GIA certified at H-VS1, white and completely eye clean. The faceting on this one and a half carat center stone is amazing giving the diamond phenomenal fire. The unique diamond is set in a split shank platinum setting. There is a halo of micropavé set round diamonds around the center stone and a split shank coming off the halo meeting in a single band of micropavé diamonds.
Antique Cushion Brilliants
The brilliance of antique cut cushion cut diamonds is different than that of modern day round brilliant cuts. The addition of more facets on the pavilion can create more brilliance in this diamond.
The 1.22ct antique cushion poised in the center is GIA certified at F-SI1. It is exceptionally white, eye clean and immensely brilliant! The pave set halo accents it beautifully with the milgrain detail around it. The sides feature diamonds set in a micropavé setting and the unique center basket features three round diamonds, bezel set on two sides with filigree detail in between.
The 1.23ct antique cushion brilliant set in the center is GIA certified at J-VS1. It faces up white, it is very clear and the cut is spectacular! It is accented by a halo of round diamonds in a pave setting as well as round diamonds set down the shank in a pave setting as well. The front and back of the ring features a gorgeous design, both in white gold and rose gold. It is studded with round diamonds as well.
